—Micah 7:18Who is a God
like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by
the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he
retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth
in mercy.
—Psalms 78:38But he,
being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and
destroyed them not: yea, many a time turned he his anger
away, and did not stir up all his wrath. 39For
he remembered that they were but flesh; a wind that
passeth away, and cometh not again.
—Isaiah 43: 25I, even I,
am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own
sake, and will not remember thy sins.
—Jeremiah 36: 3It may be
that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I
purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man
from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and
their sin.
—Isaiah 55: 7Let the
wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his
thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will
have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will
abundantly pardon.
—Psalm 32:5I acknowledge
my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I
said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD;
and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah.
—2 Chronicles 7:14If my
people, which are called by my name, shall humble
themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from
their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and
will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
—Ezekiel 18: 21But if the
wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath
committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which
is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not
die. 22All his
transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be
mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath
done he shall live. 23Have
I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith
the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his
ways, and live? 24But when
the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and
committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the
abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live?
All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be
mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and
in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.
25Yet ye say, The way of
the LORD is not equal. Hear now, O house of Israel; Is
not my way equal? are not your ways unequal? 26When
a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and
committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity
that he hath done shall he die. 27Again,
when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness
that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful
and right, he shall save his soul alive.
28Because he considereth,
and turneth away from all his transgressions that he
hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
29Yet saith the house of
Israel, The way of the LORD is not equal. O house of
Israel, are not my ways equal? are not your ways
unequal? 30Therefore I will
judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his
ways, saith the Lord GOD. Repent, and turn yourselves
from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be
your ruin.
—Proverbs 21:3To do
justice and judgment is more acceptable to the LORD than
sacrifice.
—Hosea 6: 6For I desired
mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more
than burnt offerings.
—Micah 6: 6Wherewith
shall I come before the LORD, and bow myself before the
high God? shall I come before him with burnt offerings,
with calves of a year old? 7Will
the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, or with ten
thousands of rivers of oil? shall I give my firstborn
for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin
of my soul? 8He hath
shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD
require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy,
and to walk humbly with thy God?
—Isaiah 1:11To what
purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto me?
saith the LORD: I am full of the burnt offerings of
rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in
the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goats. 12When
ye come to appear before me, who hath required this at
your hand, to tread my courts? 13Bring
no more vain oblations; incense is an abomination unto
me; the new moons and sabbaths, the calling of
assemblies, I cannot away with; it is iniquity, even the
solemn meeting. 14Your new
moons and your appointed feasts my soul hateth: they are
a trouble unto me; I am weary to bear them.
15And when ye spread forth
your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you: yea, when ye
make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full
of blood. 16Wash you, make
you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before
mine eyes; cease to do evil; 17Learn
to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge
the fatherless, plead for the widow. 18Come
now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though
your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow;
though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
